A Founding Vision
The Royal Bhutan Country Club (RBCC) was established as an integral part of His Majesty The King's profound vision for the Gelephu Mindfulness City (GMC). This ambitious endeavor to create a sanctuary of peace and sustainability was championed early on by Ming Z. Mei, who stepped forward as the first founding member of GMC, dedicating himself to guiding the city's mindful development.
Together, they share a unified vision of cultivating a sustainable community that seamlessly blends Bhutan's deep spiritual values with thoughtful, modern development. RBCC's mission directly supports these founding principles, acting not as a traditional recreational facility, but as a philanthropic catalyst for the city's growth.
At our core is an unwavering commitment to environmental stewardship, community benefit, and mindful prosperity. Every initiative we undertake is designed to nurture the land, uplift the local population, and foster a space where ecological harmony thrives.
Advancing the Blueprint of GMC
In alignment with the vision of Gelephu Mindfulness City, the Royal Bhutan Country Club will bring together principles of mindful development, wellbeing, economic opportunity and connection with nature. RBCC is envisioned as a world-class destination that reflects GMC’s values, supports its long-term economic and social aspirations, and strengthens its emergence as a globally recognised destination with a distinctly Bhutanese identity.
As a non-profit organisation, RBCC is envisioned as a platform for impact far beyond the Club itself. Its success will contribute to the wider aspirations of GMC and Bhutan, creating enduring value for the country and helping demonstrate how an institution of global standing can serve a purpose greater than itself.
Minimalist Design by Tom Doak
Renowned architect Tom Doak was selected to design our 270-acre landscape because of his steadfast commitment to minimalist, 'lay-of-the-land' routing. Doak's philosophy perfectly mirrors Bhutan's respect for the natural world.
Rather than imposing artificial shapes onto the earth, the course is woven seamlessly into the existing topography. It preserves ancient migratory routes for the endangered Golden Langur and local elephant populations. The grounds operate not merely as a recreational facility, but as an active conservation sanctuary and ecological buffer zone.
Here, golf is stripped of its exclusivity and reframed as a meditative experience - a silent walk in harmony with nature, encouraging mindfulness and profound respect for the living environment.
Co-Designed by Vijit Nandrajog
Vijit Nandrajog is the co-designer of the Royal Bhutan Country Club alongside renowned golf course architect Tom Doak. Widely regarded as South Asia's leading golf course architect, Vijit has designed and overseen the development of many of the region's premier golf courses, particularly across India.
His deep understanding of the local landscape, climate, and construction practices, combined with his visionary design philosophy and extensive hands-on experience, makes him an invaluable contributor to the successful realization of the RBCC project.
